The Three Weeks: Mourning and Praying

We are in the midst of “the three weeks”. These somber days began on the 17th of Tammuz (July 15th this year) and lead up to the 9th of Av (August 5th this year). We’re sad about all the bad things that happened on these dates, especially the destruction of the Holy Temples and our exile. We long and pray for the return of Messiah, who will not only establish His perfect kingdom here on earth, but will turn all our days of mourning into feast days (Zachariah 8:19).

This year, in addition to mourning the loss of the Temple, we are mourning the loss of life in Israel and praying for God to intervene on behalf of His people who are being attacked. As we see antisemitism rising up all around the world, there is little support for tiny Israel protecting herself from terrorism.

So what are we supposed to do? We have to speak out, show our support and educate others, but the most important thing we can do is to fall on our faces before our God. He never slumbers or sleeps. As we cry out to Him, He hears our prayers and tucks us under the shadow of His wings.

He will send Messiah soon. Are we ready for Him?
